Varicose veins are twisted, enlarged veins. The veins most commonly affected are those in your legs. This is because pooling blood puts extra pressure on the walls of the veins, causing them to expand and deform, which results in the twisted appearance of varicose veins. That means it’s much easier for blood to pool in the lower extremities than other parts of the body.
For many people, varicose veins and spider veins are common, mild variation of varicose veins that are simply a cosmetic concern. For other people, varicose veins can cause aching pain and discomfort. Sometimes varicose veins lead to more-serious problems.
