Hemorrhoids, also known as piles, are swollen veins in the lower part of the anus and rectum. When the walls of these vessels are stretched, they become irritated. Although hemorrhoids can be unpleasant and painful, they are easily treated and very preventable.
The hemorrhoids are 4 grades. The first grade, patients bleed on defecation only, 2nd degree has swelling which reduces by itself after defecation, 3rd has swelling on defecation which patient reduces by himself, and 4th degree where the swelling is prolapsed outside the anus.
Treatment is mostly conservative by regulating bowel habits but there are other procedures if conservative treatment fails.
These treatments include rubber band ligation , sclerotherapy, cryosurgery for 2nd degree and stapler, laser…etc for 3rd & 4th degree.
