Endoscopic Surgeries (Gastroscopy & Colonoscopy)

Surgery

Gastroscopy is a procedure where a thin, flexible tube called an endoscope is used to look inside the oesophagus (gullet), stomach and first part of the small intestine (duodenum). It’s also sometimes referred to as an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. The endoscope has a light and a camera at one end.

Any patient that is scheduled for this procedure should be fasting for 6 to 8 hours.

Whereas, Colonoscopy is an exam used to detect changes or abnormalities in the large intestine (colon) and rectum. During a colonoscopy, a long, flexible tube is inserted into the rectum. A tiny video camera at the tip of the tube allows the doctor to view the inside of the entire colon.

As for Colonoscopy, patients should have bowel preparation before the procedure.
